A Quiet Season, A Deepening Work 1/3
It has been a while since our last blog post. Although the updates paused, life at Tesifa did not slow down for a moment.
Over these many months the work became fuller, deeper and more hands-on than ever before. We dedicated ourselves to what mattered most: strengthening sustainability at Thayu Farm, caring for our children, improving our systems and responding to moments of both joy and sorrow. With so much happening on the ground, taking time to write was simply not possible. Now that the season has settled, we are ready to bring you back into the story.
One of the earliest highlights of this period was a meaningful visit from Chris Higham and a team from the UK. Together we carried out a Kila Dada distribution at a local school where 250 reusable sanitary kits were given to girls in need. Their visit set a tone of shared compassion and partnership that stayed with us throughout the year.
During this same season Thayu Farm entered a transformative stage. The land was fenced, accommodation for farm workers was completed and a solar-powered borehole was installed. These steps formed the foundation for genuine sustainability and marked the beginning of a long-term future for the farm and the children we serve.
Amid this progress we also walked through deep grief. Mark, Rachael’s husband, passed away after a sudden illness. He was laid to rest on Thayu Farm and trees were planted in his honour. The seedlings now standing on the land serve as a living tribute to a life that gave so much. His passing reshaped our community and strengthened our resolve to build something that continues to give life.
A season of quiet, steady building
- Deeper sustainability work at Thayu Farm
- Practical care for girls through Kila Dada
- A community learning to carry both grief and hope together
There is much more to share and we are grateful you are here as we begin this renewed season of storytelling.
